Our Story

The Bell Rock Lighthouse stands as the world’s oldest surviving sea-washed lighthouse, a beacon of safety that has weathered the violent North Sea since 1811. Built upon a treacherous reef that once claimed dozens of ships each winter, its construction was considered an impossible feat—an engineering work of art that transformed a place of peril into a sanctuary of safe passage. Our firm was named after this historic monument because we believe structural engineering should offer that same level of permanence and protection to every project we work on.

Bellrock Structural Engineering was founded by Austin Thompson, PE, SE, with the conviction that structural engineering should be practical, personal, and genuinely helpful. After years in the industry, Austin saw a recurring problem: clients were often treated as transactions, left waiting too long for results that didn’t meet their needs. Based on the Emerald Coast in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, Bellrock was built to be a trusted partner for homeowners, builders, and architects, and commercial clients, ensuring every project begins with a commitment to safe, sensible solutions and a team that is easy to work with.

The Bellrock Difference

01.
Partnership Is Our Process

We provide direct access to experienced engineers who stay engaged from concept to completion, absorbing technical complexity to lift the weight of stress and bring order to a demanding industry. Whether we are removing the intimidation factor for a homeowner or providing technical clarity for an attorney, we focus on building trust-based bonds that are as important as the buildings we design.

02.
Responsive When It Matters

We know deadlines are critical to your success. That is why we prioritize reasonable turnaround times and proactive communication. Our goal is to ensure you are never left waiting on a structural stamp to pour concrete or move a project forward.

03.
Stewardship Over Shortcuts

We refuse to compromise on safety. Our focus is on optimizing resources to create enduring value that empowers our community for generations. We design with the end-user in mind to provide solutions you can stand on and genuine peace of mind.

A Force for Good

Bellrock was built on a simple belief: engineering should serve people, not just structures.

Every project we take on is a chance to protect someone’s home, support someone’s livelihood, or keep a community safe. But we know our work only reaches so far. That’s why we established the #ForceforGood Initiative.

Several times a year, we invite our clients and community to vote on a local nonprofit they believe is doing meaningful work in Northwest Florida. The winning organization receives a donation from Bellrock—our small way of saying thank you to the people quietly making this region better.

Current eligible recipients include Children in Crisis, One Hopeful Place, Fresh Start for Children and Families, A Bed 4 Me Foundation, Freedom Life Compass, CALM House, NWF Health Network, and United Way Emerald Coast.

Know an organization that deserves to be on the list? We’re always accepting nominations for nonprofits serving Okaloosa County and the surrounding area.

We engineer safe structures as a force for good in our communities.
